10 Things I Would Tell My 16-Year-Old Self, If You Could: 30 Things

August 14, 2015

Finally got around to another blog post for the 30 Things list.

Here's number 4: List 10 things you would tell your 16 year-old self, if you could. Much of these you will still be referring back to as your future self.

My best friend Kate and I, in Epot.

1. Appreciate your parents.
At 16, you might be so focused finding friends and school that you might not realize all that your parents are doing for you. Saying "Thank you" more is a great way to show it.

2. Always be yourself.
You might be trying to fit in with high school. High school is not a contest and though it is a very interesting time. You might not realize to be more of yourself until you almost graduate but true friends will always accept you for who you are.

3. Do not obsess over boys.
Yes please do NOT obsess.

4. Save at least 10% of your income. Don't touch it.
Saving 10% of your income might sound like a lot but saving this much and letting it add up, can really help in the long run.

5. During summer and winter breaks, keep learning.
You can teach yourself a lot during these breaks. Yes still go out and have fun with friends and such but hit those books. You might learn somethings from TV shows here and there and studying throughout the break can help you to learn much more. Plus new skills will look mighty fine on your resume.

6. Read out loud more.
You might be pretty good at silent read but reading out loud can help to deter stumbling on the words every now and then. Reading out loud at a younger age, can certainly help with speeches during presentations too when you get older, and the bed stories with your future kids will be smooth.

7. Cooking is fun.
At this age, you might want to let your mother cook everything but getting into the kitchen and learning as she cooks or cooking from cookbooks will definitely help you in the long run. You will be a pro in time. Your husband will love it too.

8 Take more pictures.
Pictures are a great visual way to capture memories, just don't take a whole bunch of selfies ;-)

9. Keep in touch with relatives.
Your relatives really love you and will help you. Though some will not be there as you get older and take time to really cherish the moments with your relatives and send cards!

10. Stop stressing over small things, it'll turn out OK!
You are strong and you will shine.
