Last week I went to the 92nd Annual American Meteorological Society conference in New Orleans, LA. I went with some students and faculty of the Howard University Program of Atmospheric Sciences (HUPAS). The conference was great and I learned a lot about public health, policy and air quality. I'm currently researching the value of air quality forecasting with my advisor Dr. William R. Stockwell.
The city of New Orleans was very live. The weather was nice. It was in the low to mid 70s for the time we were there. I could not forget about Hurricane Katrina which struck New Orleans in 2005, while I was there as well.
I walked down Bourbon Street and saw the French Quarter. The French Quarter was very nice and I'm just say that Bourbon Street was completely the opposite. I'd really like to go back with Rex. I missed him the whole time I was there. I think it would be a nice place for us to visit and enjoy. Here are some pictures from my trip.

Me on Bourbon St, I got the beads from the airport. They were giving them out after we had landed.

We went to the memorial in Washington, DC three days before Christmas last year. It was a truly amazing experience. Thank you so much Dr. King!

January 9th is my birthday. Capricorns unite! Hehe.
I turned 25 this year. I'm very blessed and I thank HIM for 25 years of life and look forward to many more, especially with Rex and the new adventures we'll experience.
This year January 9th was also the first snowfall of 2012 for the DC metro area. The storm was not very well forecasted, due to a disagreement in the computer models and many saying that there wasn't enough cold air or moisture present for snow. When the snow did start to fall, the non-accumulating thoughts turned into an accumulation of up to 2" in some areas. In Adelphi/Tacoma Park, we received about 0.5". It was pretty coming down and the snow nicely covered the grass. It covered the cars slightly as well. The streets were slick in some areas, however.
Rex took me out for my birthday that night and we went to Longhorn Steak house. We went out with a few friends as well. It was a wonderful birthday and a nice treat with the little bit of snow. It was nothing compared to the Blizzard of '96. Remember that? It's been a pretty snow-less winter so far in many parts of the United States.

Thank you so much for braving the weather baby for a wonderful birthday celebration. You mean so much to me and thank you to everyone else who made it out. It means a lot. Gotta love having a winter b-day ;-)

Here's a picture of the pottery Rex and I painted at Color Me Mine in Silver Spring, MD, last November. It was a fun experience. There are many ceramic pieces to choose from, like plates, boxes, banks and figurines. I painted a cute penguin bank. I made him purple because that's my favorite color. Rex painted a plate and was soooo creative. The plate is absolutely gorgeous and so thoughtful. We'd like to go back again :-)

In my spare time I like to write poetry and back in November I wrote a poem about Rex. It's called Untitled. Here's that poem, enjoy :-)

For years there was a time I couldn’t see,
Blinded by what was in front of me,
Thinking something so wrong was right,
At the end of the dark tunnel, I found the light,
I was searching for love and tears I received,
Not following through with what I believed,
I took some time and found me,
And you have come and set me free,
Flying so high I can’t describe,
Trusting in you and learning,
That people mistakes and survive,
I’m living my life and for you I am yearning,
We’ll take this slow and we won’t forget the past,
For the past makes us strong and fills us with wit,
The future is as bright as we make it.
