In the recent days, both Rex and I have gotten a few calls for interviews. The interviews I have been getting aren't anything related to my education in Earth Science however but sometimes you do have to go back to the basics. When I first got back to my parents house I was still trying to find something even using the experience I've gained through the temp agencies. However that experience was only months, where my nursing home experience is over 2 years. Hence, I put in applications for nursing homes and the calls started pouring in. Literally. I'll be starting part-time at one nursing home, March 1st. I still have the part-time job with the middle school as well.

Rex went on two interviews for an electrical company his friend works at down in Baltimore. We're still waiting to hear back for that. We're adding a few days in there due to the snowstorms and the holiday. He also heard from a friend in Philadelphia who said they are hiring where he works. Rex is going to go there on Monday to fill out an application. I'm so excited because just the other day Rex was saying he was going to visit for the weekend, the last time he was here was on my birthday, January 9th. My Dodge Neon which I've had since 2005 isn't doing too well, so he'll be coming by Greyhound. We got a one way ticket for now. We've been discussing the next steps considering we tried getting more stable positions back in Maryland and now it looks like we'll be staying in New Jersey longer than we thought. If that's the case which it really seems to be, then Rex was planning on coming here and finding a job up this way. We both knew the arrangement was only until we can get back on our feet and even with us all living at my parents house, we know we want to get much more on our feet. That comes in time though.

The offers are coming in much more than the previous weeks and we definitely need to work for a living. I've been looking for a daycare for May and we think we might have found one in Delran. She is a little explorer. Climbing on everything she can get her tiny hands on. I know she'll be happy to see her father. Hopefully he can find a job up here and we can go from there. We have to take things one day at a time.

I came across another subscription service for this week's Friday Find. This service is called The Young Scientist Club. According to their website, the science kits are award winning. I actually ended up on the the Magic School Bus Science Club subscription. I remember watching the Magic School bus after school and learning about how the body works and the layers of the Earth. Oh that Ms. Frizzle! The age range for the kits are 5 though 12. I know I have a while before May turns 5 but hey I might even get these for myself. I've always been interested in science, hence my Bachelor's in Earth Science: Meteorology. Hehe.

I was very intrigued by the Magic School Bus Science Club and clicked the logo to find the other products and subscriptions. I see science as more of a discovery of why things work they way they do and this company seems like a wonderful way to showing what science is. From the look of it, it seems their kits are very informative and offer a fun way to learn.  The Magic School Bus Science Club is $19.99 with shipping and handling included. They also offer kits such as Clifford the Big Red Dog, Science on a Gardening Adventure and Volcano Madness.

Happy Valentine's Day everyone! Hope you are warm and with the ones you love. This morning we woke up to a beautiful treat. No not chocolate but the beauty of the sun sparkling over the fresh snow. We got about 2 more inches of snow overnight from Winter Storm Pax. In total I'd say we got about 12 inches. I know many including myself are tired of the snow at this point but when I saw the sunrise and the scene just down the street from where we stay I just had to take a picture. Nature is truly beautiful!

May turned 14 months today. She getting bigger every day! Just wanted to post this picture I took of her earlier. We didn't take her outside today, even though there was at least 10 inches of snow. She did like watching it fall, and when she gets older we'll definitely have to build a snowman! Happy 14 months May!

May took her first steps earlier today. She was walking, WALKING to her grandfather. My dad said "Come here," and she was let go of the piece of furniture she was holding onto and without any assistance, took two steps toward him. I still can't believe it. She fell forward afterward and then reached out her hand and he lifted her up.

I was sitting on the couch and from my view I saw she was walking but I thought she was holding onto the chair that was close by. My dad said "No, she was walking," and then I remembered that she held both hand out in front of her. I should have recorded it. I know there will be many more recordable moments though. I got so emotional and teary eyed. May will be 14 months old on Thursday. She is definitely gain more confidence. My mom noticed that even when she holds onto the furniture, she walks more with one foot in front of the other. It's only a matter of time before she is fully walking. It was such an amazing moment. I wish Rex was here to see it. He misses her so much and we miss him. We hope to see him soon. Maybe she'll be walking into his arms :-)

For this week's Friday Find, I wanted to talk about a subscription service called Silly Rhino. The service features 7 eco-friendly and natural products for children ages 0 to 4. If you've been following my blog, you'll know I'm into subscription services. I found out about this service through My Subscription Addition.

I liked what the company had sent Liz, the author of My Subscription Addition. Her box was geared for four year olds and she received items like building blocks, heart shaped cutters and a framed Winnie the Pooh quote. I try to find more eco-friendly products especially for May and this seems like a very nice discovery service. The cost for a one month subscription is $35.99, three months is $34.99 and six months is $33.99. All options feature free shipping. With that prices I'll have to put this service on the back burner but I'll keep checking in to see what they offer.

Disclosure: I got this product as part of an advertorial.

About a week ago, I applied to review a children's book Hugo The Happy Starfish: The Secret To Happiness by author Suzy Liebermann from the website, Tomoson.com. The book looked fun from the cover pictured above and also from the description. Within two days, I was accepted for the review and although the book was offered for the Kindle (I don't have have a Kindle), I was able to read the book through Amazon.com's cloud reader. The book could also be read through the Kindle app for Android or IOS as well.

The book is an Award-Wining finalist in the Children's Mind/ Body/ Spirit category of the USA "Best Books 2012" awards and features Hugo, a starfish with a big heart. Hugo is happy but becomes sad and goes on a journey to find happiness. He tries different activities which bring him some happiness but the happiness does not last long. He later discovers that sharing with others brings him great long lasting happiness. He also learns empathy.

I found the book to be very engaging. The pictures were very well done. The flow of the book was good and there was a build up to what really made him happy. Once what really made him happy for a long time was revealed there was good emphasis on the topic. I read the book to May and she pointed to the the starfish and other characters in the book. She didn't stay completed interested, she'll be turning 14 months old later this month, but I'm sure when she gets older she'll like the book. With that being said, I found the book to be a little bit on the lengthy side, but it is geared for older children. Overall I really enjoyed the book and following Hugo on his journey to happiness. Suzy wrote a wonderful book that teaches great lessons for both children and adults.

This Clorox bleach commercial gets me every time I see it. I know there's probably going to be a time when May comes in and says she went potty and I'll say "Where?" We still have a while before that might happen. In the meantime, I think it's cute and funny.

For the past few days now, May has been gaining more and more confidence to stand on her own. I can never seem to get my phone out when she is standing on her own, but each time she appears to stand longer and longer.

When she stands, she likes to clap and I try to get her to take a few steps but when she goes to sit back down. My mom got her a V-Tech walker and May has been using the walker more. It's so cute seeing her push the walker around. I'm sure she'll be walking by herself in the new few months. I know she's going to walk on her own time. She still likes to walk around holding onto a hand or onto the furniture. I know that's another chapter when she masters walking. She mastered crawling and she crawls so fast. I'm sure when she walks, she'll be running not to far afterward.

May loves hearing her daddy's voice on the phone. Rex and I talk regularly on the phone and through text. He started a part-time job in Maryland recently, he's still looking for more full-time. I'm still looking for more full-time too. We both put in applications at so many places, and I've gone to about three temp agencies. We're keeping close while we are apart and really looking at our options. Ultimately we both know we all want to live in Maryland, we definitely more want to get things back to the way they were. To get more on our feet, but we also know, it won't happen overnight. Things financial have gone from bad to worse, but we know that at the end of the tunnel, there is a light.

I'm so thankful that we have places to stay, even though we are apart for the time being. I'm happy too that I can help my parents around the house, though I can't contribute much at all financially. They told Rex and I that they struggled when they first started out and Rex and I know this arrangement isn't permanent. We'll all be standing tall because when life kicks you down, you have to get right back up and keep going.
